Things have been rather busy compared to the last time I shared any information here. Returning to my primary work about a month ago, gardening and doing some spring cleanup has kept me busy with some time being allocated to finishing the drawings needed to complete the guide. I’ve got the guide part typed out for the most part and once I have the drawing needed to complete the guide.
The other issue that has been a problem this spring is the amount of rain we have been getting has been higher than usual. With the forge being in an open area it has made it difficult to try and get some serious forging done. Not to mention the manual blower I bought (tho a very cheap one and not very well built) finally gave out on me. I’ve got a new one coming, electric with a speed controller and sunk in the extra money for one with better construction.
I’ve also gone through and counted up my inventory that I have and how much I’ve spent as of February to get all this up and going. As of now I have put in $1,047.53 and that’s not including the amount I’ve spent just in time. This also doesn’t include the value of the current tools that I had prior to keeping tract (estimated to have almost $2,000 in tools and equipment that I had lying around prior).
Just the forge itself cost me $266.48 to get up off the ground, with the most expensive part of it (the forge body) being given to me from my neighbor who has helped with a lot of its construction. It was stuff that he had lying around and didn’t have use for it anymorez the rest of it I funneled money into getting up going. The forge is a V shaped wood forge that is similar to the Whitlox Wood Fired Forges that are for sale, it’s 18 Inches across in the actual fire pot so plenty of room for a nice coal bed to make tools and knives.
To wrap things up I should see some free time coming up to fishing more of the drawing needed for the guide. Once I have everything done, edit and proof the guide as needed and have a few friends and colleagues review it I’ll be able to publish for purchasing in the shop. I’ve got a small project for myself to see if I can make some money from my primary job as some of the tools needed do cost the company a good amount of money. I can make some of them and I’ll see if I can sell to them.
